The purpose-driven data professional is emerging – are you ready?
Social impact organizations require a new key to unlock transformative impact in the social sector…and that’s the purpose-driven data professional of the future!
This is our vision at data.org. We recognize that in order for the social sector to benefit from today’s data revolution, more data talent and data capacity within organizations is critical. This is where the Capacity Accelerator Network (CAN) at data.org aims to change the game. Starting with a global agenda-setting, and a distinct focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion, CAN commits to training one-million purpose-driven data professionals by 2032.
In this keynote session, data.org’s Capacity Accelerator Network Program Director, Dr. Ronda Železný-Green, discusses data.org’s vision for this transformational “uplift” to the sector, and will highlight key ambitions, goals, milestones, and partnership progress achieved to date. Following its successful launch, Ronda will speak briefly about data.org’s new Data Maturity Assessment and Resource Library and how you can use our platform TODAY as we work collaboratively to help build the field in the next decade.
Ronda Železný-Green, Ph.D. is the former Director of Digital Learning for data.org. She is a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) changemaker creating systems to empower Black people, women, people with disabilities, and other marginalized populations in the technology and education sectors.

Exploring the Many Faces of Data Maturity: Four Organizations Share Their Experiences Using the Data Maturity Assessment
“You can’t really know where you are going until you know where you have been.” – Maya Angelou
In order for social impact organizations to optimize and effectively use data to inform strategies and impact, there needs to be a clear idea of where they are in their current use of data.
This was the premise behind data.org’s new Data Maturity Assessment. The 12-min assessment is intended to provide users with a snapshot view to help better understand where they are in the data maturity journey and provide resources to support continued growth.
In this roundtable dialogue, data.org’s Digital Content Lead, David Mascarina, and Director of Partnerships, Lindsey Gottschalk will lead a discussion with three social impact organizations, all in different points along the data maturity journey, who have taken the assessment. You will hear concrete examples of how this tool has helped these organizations consider their data strategy, strengthen current use of their data, and inform their ability to drive social impact.
As Director of Strategic Partnerships, Lindsey Gottschalk works at the intersection of strategy and operations to strengthen the collaboration among partners and scope and implement new initiatives.
